As the weather gets warmer we all know that spring cleaning is imminent. It’s definitely no one’s favourite job, but it must be done. Want to get going on your housework but don’t know where to start?
Try out some of our spring cleaning tips to get your home organized in time to enjoy the summer:
1. Clean your windows like a pro
To make your life easier, get rid of the paper towels and cloths full of lint and invest in a squeegee, strip applicator (a mop for windows) and sponge.
Clean off dirt using the strip applicator with warm water and only a few drops of soap – the less suds the better – and wipe off, using the squeegee, working your way down in an ‘S’ motion. Never have streaky windows again.

2. Wipe Down Wall Doodles
If your kids decided to debut their artistic talents on your walls, combat it with a damp sponge and some baking soda. This will scrub your walls clean without damaging the paint job.
3. Wash your windows on an overcast day
Direct sunlight can often dry the windows too quickly, which can leave you with streaks on the glass. To ensure your home always looks its best, wash your windows twice a year, and never on a bright, sunny day!
4. Clean chemical free
Want to make sure your countertops are clean but worry about all those chemicals near your food? Create your own cleaning solution with a vinegar, herb and water mix. Try with rosemary for an earthy scent or use orange peels for a citrusy solution.

5. Make faucets gleam
Next time you’re cleaning your kitchen or bathroom faucets, rub a bit of toothpaste over them before wiping them down with a damp sponge. This will get all the gunk off and leave them sparkling!
6. Ditch the paper towels for good
Tired of reaching for paper towel after paper towel while cleaning? Try using a microfiber cloth instead. Inexpensive and machine washable, when wet they can be used to sanitize and clean counters, glass and tile surfaces. Say goodbye to crumpled paper towels forever.
7. Dirty window screens? No more!
Now that it’s getting warmer, take off any windows screens, bring them outside, and give them a good sweeping with a small-handled brush that comes with your dustpan. This saves you from dealing with any excess dirt when you’re cleaning the glass.
Sometimes, it can be hard to get yourself motivated when it comes to cleaning, but with these tips Ottawa, every inch of your home will be glistening in no time!
